Risks

Under manager Basu Mullick, the fund is no longer the strict mid-cap offering that it was under Andrew Wellington, making it potentially tougher to fit into a portfolio.
Mullick's willingness to make bets on volatile sectors such as energy and homebuilders has subjected shareholders to significant performance swings in the past. Read more 

Strategy

Under manager Basu Mullick, this fund has become a somewhat less volatile mid-cap version of his other fund, the large-cap Neuberger Berman Partners. As in the Partners fund, he looks for stocks with good growth potential and returns on equity, but reasonable valuations; however, the sector bets he makes here tend not to be as dramatic.  Read more

Basu Mullick became this fund's manager on June 7, 2005, replacing Andrew Wellington, who had been lead manager for a little over two years and had worked on the fund for two years before that. Mullick also manages Neuberger Berman Partners, a large-cap fund with a portfolio that will now have considerable overlap with this one.  Read more
