Janus Global Technology is on the rebound, but it still has a ways to go.

If anyone thought volatility had subsided in the technology sector after its dramatic rise and fall from 1999 through 2001, they were wrong. This fund, much like the sector, lost more than 50% from the beginning of 2008 through March 9, 2009, but is up a staggering 60% in the roughly five months since then. Read more

Risks

The fund has seen two manager departures since 2006, and current management is bringing several new hires up to speed.

In February 2006, Janus put this fund's fate directly in the hands of its technology research team, with the stated intention of bringing investment decisions closer to its analysts. The team still relies heavily on its global research capabilities and prides itself on finding the companies with strong positions in the supply chain. Read more

Management

Janus' assistant director of research (as of mid-2009) and lead tech analyst Barney Wilson has managed this fund since February 2006. He initially comanaged the fund with fellow tech analyst, Brad Slingerlend, who left Janus in the spring of 2007. Slingerlend ended up rejoining Janus in the fall of 2007 and will cover some of the stocks relevant to this fund, but his reach will now extend beyond just tech. Read more
