New Hampshire's advisor-sold College Investing Plan lacks appeal. The Fidelity-managed plan doesn't offer state tax breaks on contributions and fails to grant access to some of Fidelity's top funds. Its limited exposure to value-oriented and small-cap offerings also impedes portfolio diversification. The age-based fund's fees range from 1.05% to 1.30% and the static allocation funds' fees range from 0.94% to 1.54% (for A-shares). These levies are reasonable for an advisor-sold plan, but investors needn't settle. We recommend looking at some of our direct-sold favorites, including Ohio’s direct sold CollegeAdvantage plan, or, for the index lovers, Utah's Educational Savings Plan Trust instead. Those seeking an advisor-sold plan should consider Virginia's CollegeAmerica.(Information as of 03/23/2009) |
