In 2008 Upromise took over the plan-management duties of Indiana’s CollegeChoice 529 plan, and we think investors now have a best-in-class option. The age-based portfolios are composed of proven Vanguard index offerings and have a sensible transition from equities to fixed-income as the beneficiary grows older. Fees are very reasonable, ranging from 0.35% for a total stock market index fund to 0.95% for a single-fund international portfolio, while the age-based option hovers around a modest 0.51% to 0.53%. To top it off for Indiana residents, the plan's attractive tax incentives will remain intact. Residents receive a 20% tax credit up to a maximum of $1,000 per year on contributions. Residents and nonresidents alike should consider this inexpensive and well-constructed plan.(Information as of 03/24/2009) |
